Burchfield sets August events

The Burchfield Nature and Art Center, 2001 Union Road, has planned several family events for the month of August.

On Sunday, Aug. 12, Friends of Burchfield Nature and Art Center will host two activities in the park: one, an opportunity to sharpen photography skills, and the other, a chance to get better acquainted with the nature park.

A scavenger hunt is being held in the park on Sunday, Aug. 12. The hunt is geared for entire families with a special secondary list for very young children. Participants can get to know the Burchfield Nature Park and its trails, as well as experience the wildlife, the surroundings and the late artist Charles E. Burchfield. Scavenger hunters will meet on the patio near the building from 1 to 3 p.m.

People portraits in nature will be the focus of photography consultant Kenn Morgan, whose session will begin on the Burchfield patio at 2 p.m. The informal two-hour session costs $5 and will provide opportunity to learn, practice and get feedback on the art of making portraits in a park setting.

Those interested should call 677-4843 to reserve a spot. Participants are asked to bring a friend or family member as the subject.

On Sunday, Aug. 19, the West Seneca Town Band will hold a concert in the park amphitheater from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The band will be heard not only by the amphitheater audience but also by park strollers.

For information, call 677-4843 or visit Burch fieldNAC.org.
