Uber Zone will aid stadium attendees

One preseason game is in the books for the Buffalo Bills, and while the result might have not been ideal for Bills fans, there was one group that won big on Aug. 10: Uber.

Before the game, the ride-sharing service and official partner of the Bills opened the Uber Zone, a pickup and dropoff lot for people looking to use the service.

The lot is located on the southeast corner of Abbott Road and Big Tree Road. It is the former Rogers Communications lot.

According to a release from Uber, fans should open the app while leaving the stadium and request either an UberX or UberXL. From there, they can head to the lot, and drivers will call or text riders as they arrive to tell them which row the vehicle is in.

During the Aug. 10 game, Orchard Park Police Chief Mark Pacholec said there was a total of 400 pickups and dropoffs in the Uber Zone. In past conversations, he said the lot can fit around 100 Uber vehicles at one time.

While the preseason games or the Guns N’ Roses concert may not be the biggest draw for Uber, it’s encouraging to see that fans are already using the service to get to and from New Era Field in a safe way.

Anyone in the region can attest to the problems associated with drinking and driving that happen around the stadium for regular season games and bigger concerts.

The Police Department and the state police have always had to deal with those who choose to drive drunk to and from these events, putting others around the stadium and elsewhere at risk.

With the addition of an Uber location at New Era Field, fans now have a way to make sure they are not putting anyone in danger. Instead, they can get a ride home if they’ve reached a condition where driving isn’t an option.

Uber and the Buffalo Bills should be applauded for providing this service and being proactive in making sure their fans are as safe as possible around the stadium.

Anyone who is planning to attend a regular season game this year should keep this option in mind while they’re at the game. Uber is an affordable way to get yourself to where you need to be, and you have the comfort of knowing no one will be placed in a bad situation by having to drive when they shouldn’t.

The Uber Zone will not aid all the ills that come with home games for the Bills, but it will allow safe travel for patrons, which is paramount for everyone.
