District lists August activity

Though school is currently not in session, teachers, administrators, coaches and staff at the West Seneca Central School District are actively preparing for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.


Tryout dates and practice schedules for the fall season are now available on the athletics website, wscschools.org/athletics.

For students interested in participating in fall sports, all physicals and updates are due to the athletics office at least one week prior to the start of the season. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

There is also a 24-hour secure drop box on door No. 4 on the left side of the District Office building, at 675 Potters Road.

Concussion testing will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15; Wednesday, Aug. 16; and Thursday, Aug. 17, at West Senior High School, 3330 Seneca St.

Board of Education

The Board of Education will meet for a work session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the District Office Board Room, 675 Potters Road.

The meetings, which are open to the public, provide an opportunity for members of the community to meet new employees, hear about happenings in the district and learn what action is to come.


Registration for kindergarten through 12th grade is now taking place for residents of the district. Appointments can be made by calling 677-3137 or visiting the “Central Registration” page on the district website, wscschools.org.

Open houses, orientations

Open house events and orientations allow for students to meet their teachers and get a feel for their school.

West Senior High School invites freshmen and their families to visit the school from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 3330 Seneca St.

Kindergarten orientation will take place on Monday, Aug. 28, at Clinton Street Elementary, 4100 Clinton St. There will be two sessions; parents will be notified of the times.

Allendale Elementary’s K-5 open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1399 Orchard Park Road. Students and parents will be able to bring in their school supplies, locate their classroom, meet their teacher and tour the school building. Kindergarten students will also be able to take their first ride on a school bus.

Northwood Elementary invites students to drop off supplies, meet teachers, dine on food truck items and visit during an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at 250 Northwood Ave.

Winchester Elementary will hold an open house, teacher meet and greet, first grade orientation and supply drop off from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at 650 Harlem Road. There will also be a Winchester Wings Beautification BW chicken dinner and bake sale during this time.

Senior Photos

East Senior High School invites the Class of 2018 to stop by between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17; Tuesday, Aug. 22; Thursday, Aug. 24; Tuesday, Aug. 29; or Thursday, Aug. 31, to have their senior portraits taken. The school is located at 4760 Seneca St.
