Benefit to be held for Marlene McMillian

A benefit for Marlene McMillian, a cleaner at East Senior High School, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Seneca Hose Fire Company, 2801 Seneca St. McMillian is battling cancer and recently lost her husband, Dick, who served as head custodian in the district. She has been a district employee since 1984. Organizers of the event are seeking monetary and food donations; baskets for a raffle; and volunteers to help run the event. Casino trip planned to Seneca Niagara

A bus trip to the Seneca Niagara Casino will be offered on Monday, Aug. 14. The bus will depart at 9 a.m. from Fourteen Holy Helpers parking lot, 1350 Indian Church Road, returning at 6 p.m. Lunch is included. Call 668-6037 for more information or to make a reservation.

Mensa admission test slated for Aug. 19

The summer Mensa admission test will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, in the Southgate Plaza community meeting room, 950 Union Road. The test will begin at 10:15 a.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Library schedules Aug. 19 yard sale

The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, on the hill adjacent to Town Hall, 1250 Union Road. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the parking lot in front of the ice rink. The public is invited to reserve table space for a $20 donation. Fellowship Wesleyan plans movie night

Fellowship Wesleyan Church will hold a backyard movie night at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at the church, 1645 Southwestern Blvd., across from the YMCA. Come and watch a family friendly movie and support the missions team’s trip to Guatemala. The parking lot will open at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair, and refreshments will be available for purchase. The event is rain or shine. Boy Scout Troop 735 seeks new members

Boy Scout Troop 735 of West Seneca is seeking new members who are at least 11 years old or have completed fifth grade. Members enjoy camping, outdoor activities, skill training, and community service. Call Scoutmaster Tim Cych at 821-0352.

BW’s BBQ benefits children’s center

The Save Our Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center advocacy group will hold a BW’s chicken barbecue and basket auction fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the West Seneca Senior Citizens Center, 4620 Seneca St. Admission is free, and dinners are $10 presale or $12 the day of the event. Meals include a barbecued half chicken, tossed salad, potato salad, roll with butter, beverage and dessert, and will be served until 4:30 p.m. The basket raffle will start after dinner and conclude at 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit advocacy efforts to save the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center. St. John’s seeks vendors for fair

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is preparing for its second annual vendor fair and is looking for additional vendors. The event is slated for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the church, 3512 Clinton St. During the event, a Weidner’s chicken dinner will be offered for takeout.
