Barber Zachary Armstrong recently branched out in the field of master barbering, opening his own business, Armstrong’s Barber Shop, at 2852 Seneca St., at the end of January.

Armstrong said he wanted to start a shop with a laid back and relaxing environment.

“It has an old school feel with modern haircuts — but we can do any haircut,” Armstrong said.

Currently there are four licensed master barbers at the shop, ranging in age from 21 to 30.

Armstrong said he originally went to school for business and accounting but soon learned that he didn’t care for the business environment.

He dabbled in cutting hair during college, and found himself later influenced by J.nico at Nico’s Elite Men’s Shop on Potters Road. This experience encouraged him to get serious in the business.

Armstrong’s measures out at 425 square feet — a small but intimate environment, Armstrong said.

“We offer complimentary beverages, cold and hot, and are by appointment only,” he said.

The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. It is closed on Wednesday and Sunday.

A grand opening for the business will be held Sunday, April 30, with a party for clients.
