Paderewski Singing Society is looking for just a few good vocal chords. Well, they don’t have to be great, but as long as you can more or less carry a tune this group of area purveyors of Polish and American folk music would like to hear from you. “As long as you can carry a tune we’d like to have you join us,” said society member Laura Doruszewski, who is getting ready to help out with the singing society’s membership drive. “We’re looking for male and female voices in any voice range. No experience necessary.”

• State Assemblyman Vincent Graber announced funding for the West Seneca Police Department has been granted under the Surveillance Equipment Assistance program. The primary goal of the surveillance equipment program is to provide funding to local law enforcement agencies with less than 200 police officers for intensified police investigations of drug trafficking. Graber, a sponsor of the legislation, said the West Seneca Police Department will receive $11,795.

• Members of West Seneca Youth Engaged in Service (Y.E.S.) will be featured in the second annual Volunteer Televent from 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on WIVB-TV Channel 4. “This unique event is a telethon to record volunteer hours, rather than raise money,” said Nancy Rice, televent chairwoman. “The goal is to raise awareness of the volunteerism and to remind people how important volunteers are to various agencies and organizations in our community.” The group, coordinated by Diane Beres, volunteers in a variety of settings throughout West Seneca. In recognition of its work, the group was recently a finalist for a J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award for Volunteerism.
