Cross country camp slated

The fourth annual Starpoint Cross Country Camp will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., July 21, 23, 25, 28 and 30.

Campers will meet at Starpoint High School, 4363 Mapleton Rd, Lockport, and then travel on a bus to off-site courses. Proposed courses include Beaver Island Park, Tuscarora Park and Alden cross country trails. Campers will be bused back to Starpoint at the end of each day.

It is a competitive running camp to allow runners to work within a base training model. An emphasis will be on appropriate challenges for runners based on individual experience, preparation and goals.

A Paavo training model will be introduced and developed through an individual logbook. Small and large group sessions will allow coaches and athletes to share running knowledge and acquire the tools for maximizing potential.

Awards will be given to the camp champion and the top six for entering ninth grade and below, as well as awards for campers entering grades 10-12.

The camp director is Brian Lasher, new Williamsville North boys cross country coach. Justin Weldon, boys and girls cross country and head boys track coach at Starpoint, is an associate coach.

The cost is $110 for an individual and $100 for teams of five or more. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt.
