East invites local lawmakers to roundtable

Participation in Government students at West Seneca East Senior High School will host a roundtable discussion with several local lawmakers at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, in the school auditorium, 4760 Seneca St.

Elected officials slated to take part in the discussion represent all levels of government, from town to federal office. Participants include Rep. Brian Higgins, D-27th District; state Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District; and Sheila Meegan, West Seneca town supervisor.

Students have been studying public policy and will develop questions based on issues facing the community. Questions will be directed to the appropriate elected official.

This roundtable program marks the second time this school year that Participation in Government students invited local representatives into East Senior for a public forum. East students ran a debate between the candidates for West Seneca supervisor in October. In 2010, they hosted a debate between candidates for the 58th District seat in the State Senate.

Community members are welcome to attend the April 23 roundtable. For more information, call the school at 677-3300.
