Carnival Kids to perform at coffeehouse session

St. Peter’s United Church of Christ will hold its monthly third Friday coffeehouse and open mic session from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 15, in the church’s fellowship hall, 1475 Orchard Park Road. This month will feature the music of the Carnival Kids Steel Orchestra. Burchfield contest ‘WS in Bloom’ to begin

The Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road, is sponsoring its annual “West Seneca in Bloom” gardening contest. Entry forms must be received by Friday, July 15. There is a $10 fee for each garden entered. Those who enter will have experienced judges and a photographer visit their gardens the week of July 17. St. Teresa’s sponsors chicken barbecue

St. Teresa’s Church will host a drive-thru chicken barbecue dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until sold out) on Sunday, July 17, at the 33 Mineral Springs Road parish center lot. Presale tickets are available after weekend masses, and may also be obtained from the rectory between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Cost is $8.50 presale or $9 on the day of the event. Travel Group sponsors trip to wine country

The Lachat Travel Group, based out of West Seneca, is sponsoring a trip to the Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, July 17. The bus will depart at 7 a.m. from the Harlem Road Park. Cost for the one-day trip is $75, which includes bus transportation, entrance to the festival, a souvenir wine glass and unlimited wine tastings until 4 p.m. To reserve a spot, call Larry at 824-3501.

Web Wizard camp offered for youth

West Seneca Community Education is offering the “Web Wizard” camp for children ages 8 and up, who will learn how to create their own Web page while working with easy to use Web-creation software. The four-day camp has been scheduled for either July 18-21 or Aug. 8-11. Both programs run from 12:30 to 3 p.m. each day, and cost $99 per child. Chamber plans event aboard Moondance Cat

The West Seneca Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “Cruising for Business” networking event aboard the Moondance Cat. This will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21. Higgins schedules ’Congress on Corner’

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-27th District, has scheduled a special “Congress on Your Corner” event to address the needs of local veterans for 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 22, at the Leonard Post VFW Hall, 2450 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Variety Club schedules Santa Fun Walk in July

The Variety Club of Buffalo will host the first Christmas in July Santa Fun Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23. The walk begins at West Seneca Town Hall and ends at the Southgate Plaza. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and costs $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Each participant will receive a five-piece Santa suit, goodie bag, complimentary lunch and a chance to win a Nintendo Wii. All proceeds benefit the Variety Kids Telethon. BOCES Summer Career Camp to soon begin

Erie 1 BOCES is currently enrolling middle school students in grades 5-8 during its weeklong Summer Career Camp. The first session will be held July 25-29 at Harkness Career and Technical Center on Aero Drive in Cheektowaga. Arthritis Foundation plans summer sessions

American Legion post sponsors pork roast

South Buffalo American Legion Post No. 721, 136 Cazenovia St., will host its second annual pork road from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30. Presale tickets cost $20 each, or $25 the day of event. Summer concert, fireworks at Southgate

The Southgate Plaza will host its annual Hot Summer Night free concert from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Live music will be provided by Boys of Summer and Terry Buchwald as “Elvis.” Children’s activities include a free ferris wheel and bounce house, carnival games and food court. Additionally, a fireworks display will take place at 9:30 p.m.

Ebenezer UCC plans trip to Lancaster, Pa.

Ebenezer United Church of Christ in West Seneca is planning a two-day trip to Lancaster, Pa., for Sept. 17-18. Cost is $225 per person and includes bus transportation, lodging with breakfast, a tour of Amish farmlands with a family-style dinner, tickets to see “Joseph,” the Kitchen Kettle Village and Rockvale Outlets. Carl Lambein Golf Open planned at Harvest Hill

The West Seneca Rotary Club will sponsor its fourth annual Carl Lambein Golf Open on Monday, Aug. 1, at Harvest Hill Golf Course in Orchard Park. Charge per golfer is $125 and includes a golf cart, as well as lunch and dinner at the Ismailia Shrine Temple on Southwestern Boulevard.
