Physicals being offered for prospective athletes

West Seneca School District students who are planning to participate in a sport for the 2011-12 school year have three options for obtaining a mandatory physical before the school year begins.

For those students looking to obtain their physical at the school, athletes can come to West Seneca East High School, 4760 Seneca St. Physicals at East, which will be conducted by appointment only, will be offered by the district only during the summer; no physical dates will be set up during the school year.

Appointments can be obtained through the district’s website, www.wscschools.org, by clicking on the athletics link and then the physicals link.

Athletes can also have their physicals conducted by their private physician or by calling Health Works at their own cost and convenience. The district’s physical form, which is available at the school nurse’s office, the Athletics Office (West Elementary, room 242) or on the district’s Web site, must be used in either instance.

If the physical is more than 30 days prior to the start of their respective sports’s season, a health update must be completed by the athlete’s parent or guardian. The form is then submitted to the school nurse to be completed.

Athletes choosing to have a physical conducted by their private doctor or Health Works must send their completed physical form prior to the start of practice to the Athletics Department; West Seneca Central Schools; 1397 Orchard Park Road; West Seneca, NY 14224.

Varsity and JV football, cheerleading and soccer are scheduled to begin practicing Aug. 15, while all other varsity and JV sports, as well as modified football, will begin practicing Aug. 22. Modified cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball will begin practice Sept. 1. Specific starting dates and times are available on the district’s Web site.
