Artists invited to paint outside at Burchfield

Meet the West Seneca Art Society at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, to paint in the park at the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, located at 2001 Union Road, West Seneca. This event is free and open to all local artists of all levels. The society asks attendees to bring their own art or photography gear, a snack and appropriate apparel. Email bms0916@aol.com.

Queen of Heaven plans annual carnival

The 30th annual Queen of Heaven Carnival will take place from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, July 8; noon to midnight Saturday, July 9; and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 10. The event will kick off with a “super cruise night” at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 7. The church is located on Seneca Street at Mill Road. Covenant UMC plans rummage, bag sales

Covenant United Methodist Church, 529 Main St., has scheduled its rummage and bag sales for Saturday, July 9. The rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The bag sale will take place between 1 and 2 p.m. and is all you can fit in one bag for $5. A snack bar will be available for both sales. Mount Mercy offers summer math camp

Mount Mercy Academy will offer a summer math camp for students in grades 5-8 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 15. Book-signing event held for ‘Images of America’

Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery will host Town Historian James Pace for a book-signing event for “Images of America — West Seneca” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 12. The gallery is located at 1168 Orchard Park Road. The book offers a pictorial history of the town done through a compilation of vintage photos. Proceeds from books purchased at the event will benefit the West Seneca Historical Society and Museum. For more information, call 675-0204.

Amana Garden Club plans meeting

The West Seneca Amana Garden Club will meet at noon on Wednesday, July 13, at the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, located at 2001 Union Road. A pound auction will follow.

Relay committee plans chicken barbecue

The West Seneca Relay for Life committee has planned a chicken barbecue from 1 to 6 p.m. (or until sold out) Saturday, July 16, at the Southgate Plaza. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. This year’s fundraising goal was set at $100,000 — roughly $70,000 had been raised by the date of the Relay event in June.

Burchfield contest ‘WS in Bloom’ to begin

The Burchfield Nature & Art Center is sponsoring its annual “West Seneca in Bloom” gardening contest. Entry forms must be received by Friday, July 15. There is a $10 fee for each garden entered. Those who enter will have experienced judges and a photographer visit their gardens the week of July 17. Photos will be displayed from Aug. 3-18 in the Burchfield gallery, located at 2001 Union Road. St. Teresa’s sponsors chicken barbecue

St. Teresa’s Church will host a drive-thru chicken barbecue dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until sold out) on Sunday, July 17, at the 33 Mineral Springs Road parish center lot. Presale tickets are available after weekend masses, and may also be obtained from the rectory between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Cost is $8.50 presale or $9 on the day of the event. Travel Group sponsors trip to wine country

The Lachat Travel Group, based out of West Seneca, is sponsoring a trip to the Finger Lakes Wine Festival at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, July 17. The bus will depart at 7 a.m. from the Harlem Road Park. Senior lunching group slates monthly meeting

Higgins schedules ’Congress on Corner’

Rep. Brian Higgins, D-27th District, has scheduled a special “Congress on Your Corner” event to address the needs of local veterans for 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, July 22, at the Leonard Post VFW Hall, 2450 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Variety Club schedules Santa Fun Walk in July

The Variety Club of Buffalo will host the first Christmas in July Santa Fun Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23. The walk begins at West Seneca Town Hall and ends at the Southgate Plaza. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and costs $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Each participant will receive a five-piece Santa suit, goodie bag and complimentary lunch. BOCES Summer Career Camp to soon begin

Erie 1 BOCES is currently enrolling middle school students in grades 5-8 during its weeklong Summer Career Camp. The first session will be held July 25-29 at Harkness Career and Technical Center on Aero Drive in Cheektowaga. The second session will be held Aug. 1-5 at Potter Career and Technical Center on Potters Road in West Seneca. Arthritis Foundation plans summer sessions

The Arthritis Foundation’s Exercise Program summer sessions will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. each Wednesday throughout June and July at First Presbyterian Church, located at 2085 Union Road in West Seneca. Summer concert, fireworks at Southgate

The Southgate Plaza will host its annual Hot Summer Night free concert from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. Live music will be provided by Boys of Summer and Terry Buchwald as “Elvis.” Children’s activities include a free ferris wheel and bounce house, carnival games and food court. A fireworks display will take place at 9:30 p.m.
