East’s Yearbook Club plans chicken barbecue

The West Seneca East Senior High School Yearbook Club will sponsor a BW’s chicken barbecue from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in front of the school, 4760 Seneca St. Cost is $9 and includes a half-chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, roll and butter. Clinton PTO plans chicken dinner, auction

The Parent Teacher Organization of Clinton Street Elementary will sponsor a Chiavetta’s chicken dinner and Chinese auction from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the cafeteria. Spring Carnival planned at Southgate Plaza

The Southgate Plaza on Union Road will sponsor its annual Spring Carnival from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 27; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 28; and Sunday, May 29; and noon to 6 p.m. Monday, May 30. Order of the Eastern Star sponsors meat raffle

The Erie District Past Grand Officers Association of the Order of the Eastern Star is sponsoring a meat raffle on Saturday, May 28, at the 32 Masonic Community Center, located at 2379 Union Road in Cheektowaga. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and drawings will begin at 1 p.m. Presale tickets cost $3, or $5 at the door. Cost includes sandwich, snacks and beverage. Enjoy the Journey displays poetry exhibit

Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery is currently displaying its latest exhibit, “Poetry in Motion,” which is a visual artists’ interpretation of the written word. Various mediums will be displayed with the artists’ chosen poems alongside each piece. The exhibit runs through May 28. The gallery is located at 1168 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca. Rotary Club sponsors chicken barbecue

The West Seneca Rotary Club will sponsor a chicken barbecue from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29, during the Spring Carnival at the Southgate Plaza (near Evans Bank) on Union Road. Dinners cost $9 each and include a half-chicken, coleslaw, beverage, roll and butter. Takeout dinners will also be available.

Memorial Day services planned at Post 721

Memorial Day Services will be held at the South Buffalo American Legion Post 721 at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30. Guest speaker will be South District Councilman Michael “Mickey” Kearns. Coffee, doughnuts, Danishes, hot dogs, hamburgers and macaroni salad will be served immediately following the services. The services will pay tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their lives to ensure freedom.

Civil Air Patrol to hold breakfast, lunch

The Western NY Group of the Civil Air Patrol will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until noon on Monday, May 30, at the Akron Airport in Akron. All-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, and juice, coffee or milk. Cost is $5.50 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 5 are free. Hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks will be available from noon to 1:30 p.m. Airplane rides will be provided by Christian Airmen Inc.

Healing Mass offered at Fourteen Holy Helpers

A healing Mass in honor of St. Peregrine, the patron saint of cancer, will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Fourteen Holy Helpers Church, located at 1345 Indian Church Road in West Seneca. Rev. David A. Bellittiere and the Friends of St. Peregrine invite those that are afflicted with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses, who wish to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, to attend this special mass. Arthritis Foundation plans summer sessions

The Arthritis Foundation’s Exercise Program summer sessions will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. each Wednesday throughout June and July at First Presbyterian Church, located at 2085 Union Road in West Seneca. Learn to exercise safely with seated and standing exercises which are designed to increase joint flexibility, range of motion and muscle strength. Some cost involved. Senior lunching group slates monthly meeting

Art Society calls for photographers

The West Seneca Art Society will host a get-together for photographers at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road. This will be an opportunity to discuss photo techniques and show your own work and equipment. Artists are also welcome to learn more about the art of photography. Refreshments will be served. Ebenezer UCC schedules annual rummage sale

Ebenezer United Church of Christ will host its sixth annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4. Ebenezer’s Christian Education building is located at 616 Main St. A 50-cent admission is suggested. Proceeds will benefit the church’s Youth Mission Trip program. Past proceeds allowed the group to visit and help people in such areas as Mexico and Massachusetts.

Southgate hosts annual 2011 Arts, Craft Show

The Southgate Plaza on Union Road in West Seneca will host the 2011 Arts and Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5. Spaces are available for $50 and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Limit one space per person. Eric Laufer benefit planned for June 4

The third annual Eric Laufer Music Scholarship Fundraiser and Motorcycle Awareness Run has been scheduled for Saturday, June 4, at the VFW Post 8113 “Chicken Coop,” located at 299 Leydecker Road in West Seneca. ‘Doin’ it for Dean’ raises funds for Hospice

The fifth annual Doin’ it for Dean car and motorcycle show will be held Saturday, June 4, at Bowen Road Grove in Lancaster (near Broadway). Registration for cars and motorcycles is at 12:30 p.m. Gates open at 2 p.m. for the event. Admission is $10, and children under 12 are free. Proceeds will benefit Hospice of Buffalo. Arthritis Foundation offers ‘Walk With Ease’

The Arthritis Foundation will offer “Walk With Ease” beginning June 6 through July 19, at First Presbyterian Church, 2085 Union Road in West Seneca. Participants must be able to attend classes from 1 to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Warm-ups and strengthening exercises will begin in the church. YMCA offers diabetes prevention program

The Southtowns Family YMCA Branch, located at 1620 Southwestern Blvd., West Seneca, will host a 16-week program to aid in the prevention of diabetes for individuals who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Sgroi Financial offers Social Security class

Sgroi Financial, LLC will offer “Social Security” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the West Seneca Public Library, 1300 Union Road. Technical Expert Kim Flattery will review the Social Security benefit system. This class is geared toward individuals in their 50s or 60s and will discuss how benefits are determined and when to begin receiving Social Security. First Presbyterian sets spaghetti dinner

First Presbyterian Church, 2085 Union Road (near Clinton Street), will host a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 11. Cost is $8 for adults or $5 for children ages 3 to 10. Children under 3 are free. Dinners include two meatballs, salad, a beverage and dessert. Presale tickets are available by calling the church office at 668-1115. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the West Seneca Food Pantry.

New Hope UMC plans strawberry festival

New Hope United Methodist Church will host its annual strawberry festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15. The church is located at 2846 Seneca St. Hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will also be available for sale. Father’s Day breakfast to be held at Post 735

The American Legion Post No. 735 in West Seneca will host a Father’s Day breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 19. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 10 and under. The post is located at 35 Legion Parkway. The event is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of AMVETS Post No. 8113.

South Park UMC hosts strawberry festival

South Park United Methodist Church will host its annual strawberry festival from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 22. The church is located at 73 Ashton Place. Make your own strawberry dessert with biscuit and toppings for $6 each. Also, hot dogs and hamburgers will be for sale for $2.50 and $2.75 each, respectively.
