Student photographers honored at Burchfield

Photo by Jim Smerecak Purchase color photos at www.BeeNews.com The Student Photography Show, currently on display at the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, opened with a well-attended reception on Jan. 16 to support young photographers.

At the event, ribbons were awarded in the following categories:

“Nature”: First place, Sue Smith; second, Sydney Lauricella; and third, Valerie Kosinski.

“Black & White”: First place, Jon McCann; second, Barb Borkowski; and third, Chelsea Bradley.

“Portrait”: First place, Amanda Dumas; second, Sue Smith; and third, Holly Todd.

“Landscape”: First place, Katherine Winkler; second, Jon McCann; and third, Amanda Dumas.

The show was organized by the West Seneca Art Society, with assistance of the Friends of the Burchfield Nature & Art Center.

The Student Photography Show will hang in the gallery, located at 2001 Union Road, through Feb. 17. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays.

Also, the West Seneca Art Society will host its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the BNAC. These meetings are free and open to all creative people. Current members include sculptors, photographers, wood cutters and painters in all media. For more information, e-mail to bms0916@aol.com.

The Friends of the Burchfield Nature & Art Center are also seeking interested volunteers who enjoy working with the community on a variety of activities involving art and nature. The group’s next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Burchfield. For more information, call 674-8215.
