YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign supports child care programs

The school season will soon be upon us and, thanks to the community’s support of the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, approximately 1,200 children will be spending their time before and after school engaged in healthy, fun-filled activities that their families would otherwise be unable to afford.

Funds raised through the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign are used to provide financial assistance to individuals and families in need, ensuring that YMCA programs are accessible to all.

To date, the Southtowns Family Branch YMCA in West Seneca has provided more than $125,000 in scholarships to children, families and seniors in the community. In turn, this funding has provided scholarship assistance to approximately 3,000 individuals and families in the community.

More than half of the dollars raised annually are used to provide YMCA summer day- and resident camping experiences for children between the ages of 3 and 15.

“The YMCA is grateful to be able to provide these parents with peace of mind without putting an excessive strain on their already limited budget,” said the Rev. Charles D. Bang, 2011 campaign general chair. “We can’t thank the community enough for helping to make these experiences possible for the youth and families in our community.”
