East senior honored by Emedco

Skrzypczyk Skrzypczyk Matthew Skrzypczyk, a senior at West Seneca East Senior High School, was honored as one of 117 top seniors from the Western New York area during the fifth annual Emedco Academic Excellence Awards Program, held Sunday at the Rich Renaissance Niagara Atrium in Buffalo.

Recipients are selected by their respective schools based on criteria established by Emedco, a manufacturer and distributor of signs and identification products in the workplace, based in the Buffalo area.

Criteria included rank in the top 10 percent of each student’s graduating class, participation in at least one sports activity, and serving the community or school in other activities.

Skrzypczyk, who is in the top 10 of his graduating class for his 97.3 grade point average, is involved in swimming, cross-country and track. He also is a member of the House of Representatives, a student group that meets with Superintendent Jean Kovach and the School Board to discuss issues and current events at their schools.

The group, which is run by Breann Howell, the district’s community relations coordinator, also helps plan the district’s annual Partners in Education breakfast.

Emedco’s awards program annually gives $30,000 in college scholarships to local students.
