On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a proclamation setting an April 24 special election date for nine vacant Assembly seats, including one in West Seneca, and two vacant Senate seats.

Following the resignation of Michael Kearns, a vacancy was left in the state’s 142nd Assembly District, which includes West Seneca.

Currently, no official list is available of candidates who have filed a petition to run for the position. The deadline to file party nominations certificates is Thursday, Feb. 15, and the last day to file independent nominating petitions is Tuesday, Feb, 20.
