Roycroft Film Society to hold free outdoor screening

The Roycroft Film Society will present its fourth annual free outdoor film screening at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, on the Roycroft Campus, 39 S. Grove St., East Aurora

The film, “Sherlock Jr.,” stars Buster Keaton as a kindly film projectionist who longs to be a detective. It will be screened under the stars in front of the Roycroft Power House, the way the Roycrofters used to watch movies a century ago, according to a press release from the campus.

The film was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1991. In 2000, the American Film Institute ranked the film No. 62 on its list of the funniest films of all time.

The audience is encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the screening, and refreshments will be available for purchase. A rain date for the event is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20. Interested individuals can check the Roycroft Campus’ website for updates at www.roycroftcampuscorp.com.

The Roycroft Film Society, a nonprofit division of the Roycroft Campus, has been providing art films to the area for more than 25 years.
