Enchanted Forest event set for July 23

The Burchfield Nature & Art Center welcomes children and families to its Enchanted Forest event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at the park, 2001 Union Road. Free activities include building fairy houses, creating wands and crowns, coloring nature pictures, having a snack in the fairy tea room, getting art painted on faces or hands, listening to a magical story, making butterfly wishes and enjoying nature in the Burchfield Park. St. John’s to serve community dinner

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a free community dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m., or until sold out, on Friday, July 28, at the church, 3512 Clinton St. On the menu is barbecued beef soup and summer salad, with drinks and desserts. The meal is family-friendly and is offered to anyone in need of food or fellowship. Donations will be accepted.

Casino trip planned to Seneca Niagara

A bus trip to the Seneca Niagara Casino will be offered on Monday, Aug. 14. The bus will depart at 9 a.m. from Fourteen Holy Helpers parking lot, 1350 Indian Church Road, returning at 6 p.m. Lunch is included. Call 668-6037 for more information or to make a reservation.

New Hope serves community meal

New Hope United Methodist Church will host a free community meal from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 21, at the church, 2846 Seneca St. The meal will include goulash, salad, bread, dessert and beverages. The meal is offered as a community outreach, but donations will be accepted.

‘Fur Cats Only’ aims for 100 adoptions

Western New York’s Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon will hold “Fur Cats Only,” a pet adoption event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Tri-Town Clinic, 2724 Transit Road. The goal of the event is to find forever homes for 100 cats and kittens in the five hours allotted. Included in the adoption is a microchip, bag of TLC cat food and a gift bag. Admission is free. Library schedules Aug. 19 yard sale

The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library will hold a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, on the hill adjacent to Town Hall, 1250 Union Road. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the parking lot in front of the ice rink. The public is invited to request table space for a $20 donation. Trojan Lacrosse plans meat raffle fundraiser

The West Seneca Trojan Lacrosse Association will host a meat raffle to benefit the nonprofit youth organization on Friday, July 28, at the Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6251 at 2450 Walden Ave. The doors open at 6 p.m., with the first spin at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes pop, beer and a chance to win a Char-Broil smoker prize. A 50/50 split and dinner package raffles will also be offered. People must bring their own snacks. Meat is provided by the Sloan Meat Market. For more information, email eschmatz2002@gmail.com.

Benefit for Marlene McMillian to be held

A benefit for Marlene McMillian, a cleaner at East Senior High School, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Seneca Hose Fire Company, 2801 Seneca St. McMillian is currently battling cancer and recently lost her husband, Dick, who served as head custodian in the district. She has been a district employee since 1984. Organizers of the event are seeking monetary and food donations; baskets for a raffle; and volunteers to help run the event. St. John’s seeks vendors for fair

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church is preparing for its second annual vendor fair and is looking for additional vendors. The event is slated for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the church, 3512 Clinton St. During the event, a Weidner’s chicken dinner will be offered for takeout. The Women’s Auxiliary of the West Seneca American Legion Post 735 will hold a new member social at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the post, 35 Legion Parkway. Women wishing to join are invited to attend. Contact Ann Connolly at 601-9292 to reserve a spot.
