Cavs stomp Tar Heels in Southtowns Y hoops

The Southtowns Family YMCA Youth Basketball League, which draws players from multiple locations that include West Seneca, Orchard Park and Lancaster, saw its teams continue to light up the hardwood during recent action.

 First-Third Grade division
The Cavaliers took on the Tar Heels, who were led by Max Mancabelli and Jordan Case, in the first of the division’s game. Both teams came out strong but in the end, the Cavaliers, led by Colin Balcarczyk, took home the 32-16 win.
A close game between the Knicks and the Bulldogs, who were led by Justus Kleitz, followed suit. After being tied at the half, the Knicks gave a full team effort to edge out their opponents, 22-18.

 Fourth-Sixth Grade division
The division’s games started with a heated matchup between the two undefeated teams in the division: the Hornets and the Chicago Bulls. Chicago saw a great team effort on the court but in the end fell to the Hornets, 48-30. The Hornets were led by the rebounding and defensive play of Christian Wilson.
The next game kept the heat high between the UB Bulls and the Mavericks. UB went home with the 39-25 win thanks to great rebounding and passing by Thomas Cronk.
In the final game of the division, the Orange fell to Tar Heels, who were led by Edward Cosgrove at both ends of the court.

 Seventh-Eighth Grade division
The final games of the day began with a showdown between two undefeated teams: the Volunteers and the Knicks. The Knicks were led by Damion Warr at both ends of the court. In the final quarter, however, the Volunteers pulled ahead to win it, 45-39, behind an inspired performance by Christopher King.
In the last game of the day, the Bulls were able to take home their first win of the season against the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies were led by Austin Connell in the close matchup but fell in the end, 47-30. Jason Kincaid and Gabe Morrisroe led the way for the victors.
