Post welcoming new members

Amherst AMVETS Post 49, located at 3758 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, invites all female and male, honorably discharged veterans to receive a temporary membership from now to Sept. 1.

You may attend our membership’s general post meeting at 7 p.m. any first Tuesday of the month and get an introduction to our post activities and a schedule of our operations. Upon receipt of a temporary membership, you and your spouse are welcome to attend all of our Post 49 functions.

There is an adult dinner each month at a modest price with hors d’oeuvres, draft beer and wine, and always a wonderful meal.

There is a card club that meets at 10 a.m. every Wednesday, with a lunch in the afternoon.

We run a fundraising pancake breakfast each month, usually on the fourth Sunday of the month.

We also hold a Memorial Day ceremony and a free luncheon afterward.

Additionally, there is a social night the last Friday of the month for members and their spouses from 4 to 7 p.m. with bar prices at the membership level. It is a great chance to share camaraderie and entertainment.

If you decide during the temporary membership to join our post as a regular member, the dues are $22 per year and there is a $4 monthly assessment, which is collected in full with the dues payment, for a total of $79. Our fiscal year runs from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31 each year and is in sync with National and State AMVETS departments.

For more information, you may contact the post’s first vice commander, Charles Gordon, at 208-6931 or by email at cjg14031@gmail.com.
