East squeezes past West in non-league battle

West Seneca East received just enough solid performances in the 15 battles January 25 to hold off crosstown rival West Seneca West in the squads’ dual meet, 37-34.
East received pinfall points in five of its seven victories, with its other wins coming decision and technical fall. Danny Graham earned the tech fall at 113 pounds with his 17-0 win over Dean Janczyk, while Joe Schaumloeffel posted a 4-2 decision over Josh Haueise at 195 pounds.

Three of West’s victories also came by pinfall, with the wins coming at 99 pounds (Mike Wisniewski over Josh Katashuk), 106 pounds (Lucas Tomilo over Maxeron Dorn) and 285 pounds (Jeremy Krawczyk over Jeff Cook).
West also received points via decision and major decision. Nate Woodard earned the major decision at 145 pounds with his 14-6 win over Nick Katashuk, while the decisions were earned at 132 pounds (Peter Walsh over Pat Kloster, 8-4), 138 pounds (Carmen O’Donnell over Jason Draves, 8-4), 160 pounds (Adam Janczyk over Zach Omanski, 7-1), and 182 pounds (Jake Michienzi over Devin Lindner, 1-0).
East kept rolling the next night, defeating league foe Cheektowaga by a 54-29 margin. East received pinfall victories from Matt Schaumloeffel (138), Wilamowski (152), Lechner (170) and Cook (220). Kloster (132) picked up a major decision, while decisions were earned by Katashuk (99; 4-1) and Hale (120; 8-2).
East also received forfeit points in the 113, 160 and 182 pound matches.
Both schools will now begin their postseason journeys Friday and Saturday at their respective Class Championship tournaments. East will participate in the Class A tourney at Starpoint (5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday), while West will compete in the Class AA version at Jamestown (1 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday).
