West Middle raises $1,400 in support of Honor Flight
West Middle student Jenny Tangelder, left, and English teacher Jennifer Kennedy, right, help prepare and serve more than 200 spaghetti dinners during a recent benefit for Honor Flight. It was a feast for flights on Friday, Jan. 20, at West Seneca West Middle School.
Teams 7C and 8C, along with the West Middle Parent-Teacher Organization, hosted a spaghetti dinner and theme basket event to raise funds for the Honor Flight Network. The benefit netted more than $1,400.
Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization through which volunteer pilots fly veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials dedicated in honor of their sacrifices. For every $300 raised, Honor Flight Network is able to fly one veteran to the nation’s capital.
During the event, families were seated at tables named after Italian cities. Student hosts and hostesses served dinners, lemonade and desserts to each patron as they listened to classic Italian music. More than 200 dinners were served.
Last June, West Middle raised more than $900 for Honor Flight during the “Send a Veteran Athletic Games.” Combined with this year’s event, the school has raised a total of $2,300 to benefit the nonprofit organization.
The school is currently planning the second annual Send a Veteran Games for June.
