Library programs planned for youth

Registration is currently being accepted for the following programs at the West Seneca Public Library, 1300 Union Road: “Be a Library Kid” for students in grades 1-5 will be offered from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Feb. 1 and 8; March 1 and 14; and April 4 and 11. “Preschool Storytime” for ages 3-5 will be held at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday, Feb. 7-April 24. “Toddler Time” for children ages 2-3 is scheduled for 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 9-April 26. UNYTS blood drive planned at ElderWood

Upstate New York Transplant Services will host a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at ElderWood Village at Westwood, 580 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca. Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with a signed parental consent form. Photo identification is required for all donors. Appointments can be made by calling Stacey at 677-4242. Walk-ins are also welcome. All donors will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win an overnight package.

Tax information course scheduled at library

The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library will sponsor a free tax assistance and preparation services course by AARP from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26. Taxes will not be done at this meeting; however, residents will be able to prepare for tax time as well as better understand changes and new tax laws. Registration for the course will be accepted at the library, located at 1300 Union Road, or can be made by calling 674-2928.

Destination ImagiNation fundraiser slated Jan. 28

The Orchard Park Destination ImagiNation Boosters will host a Monte Carlo Night from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Rd. West Seneca. Proceeds will go to the group. The evening will include various casino games, basket raffle, 50/50 drawings and silent auction. Ticket donation is $20 and can be purchased at the door. Weekend event kicks off 2012 Relay for Life

The kickoff celebration for the 2012 Relay for Life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in the cafeteria at West Seneca East Middle School, 1445 Center Road. Volunteers are being sought to participate in this year’s Relay, planned for June 16, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society. Marine Corps League plans monthly meeting

The monthly meeting of the Marine Corps League — Niagara Frontier Detachment No. 239 will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Harvey D. Morin Post 2940, located at 965 Center Road, West Seneca. The Marine of the Year and newly created Associate of the Year awards will be presented during this meeting. Crosstown Quilters seek entries for annual show

The Crosstown Quilters group is seeking entries for its annual fiber arts show, which begins in March, at the Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road, West Seneca. Registration forms are available for download at www.BurchfieldNAC.org. Entries must be registered by Feb. 1 and may be dropped off between 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, March 4, or 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, March 5. Fellowship Wesleyan plans father/child dinner

Fellowship Wesleyan Church will host a father/child spaghetti dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. Grandfathers, uncles and neighbors are also welcome. Giggles the Clown will greet children when doors open at 5:30 p.m. Mike Randall, a ventriloquist, magician and puppeteer, will perform from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per adult and $1 per child. Cub Scouts plan ‘flapjack fundraiser’

Cub Scout Pack 616 out of Northwood Elementary in West Seneca will host a “flapjack fundraiser” breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Applebee’s in the Southgate Plaza on Union Road. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance from a scout for $5 each. There will also be a mini-Chinese auction held during the breakfast.

WS Woman’s Club sets monthly meetings

The West Seneca Woman’s Club meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at Ebenezer Church of Christ, 630 Main St., West Seneca. Women in the Southtowns who are 18 and older are encouraged to join the group for socialization and support of the community. Community of Churches slates February meeting

The West Seneca Community of Churches will meet at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Queen of Heaven Church, located at 4220 Seneca St., West Seneca. The ecumenical group welcomes the public to attend its monthly meetings, which begin with lunch at noon, followed by opening devotions at 12:25 p.m.

Library Friends to host author, West graduate

The Friends of the West Seneca Public Library will host David Dachauer, author of “Tether Me Not,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9. The West Seneca West Senior graduate will present excerpts from the novel, which he wrote following the death of his wife, Jennifer. She died from cancer in 2010. Dachauer will sign books after the presentation. Attendees will have the chance to win a basket filled with treats and a copy of the novel. The library is located at 1300 Union Road.

West Seneca West Musical Alumni Night

The West Seneca West Alumni Association, in partnership with the West Seneca West Performing Arts Department, has planned its annual Musical Alumni Night for Saturday, Feb. 11. Buffalo Irish Center to host meat raffle

The Knights of Equity and the Daughters of Erin will hold a meat raffle at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission costs $6, which includes a roast beef sandwich, salad, dessert, beer and pop. Tickets may be purchased at the Tara Gift Shoppe. Taste of Chocolate Night planned at St. Teresa’s

St. Teresa’s Parish, located at 1974 Seneca St., will host a “Taste of Chocolate Night” from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in the parish center cafeteria (enter from the rear of Hayden Street). Tickets start at 25 cents each and can be used toward the purchase of chocolate treats, roast beef sandwiches, chicken nuggets, chips, pop, coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Queen of Angels plans ‘Taste of Italy’ dinner

The Holy Name Society of Queen of Angels Church will host an all-you-can-eat “Taste of Italy” spaghetti dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The church is located at Electric Avenue and Warsaw Street in Lackawanna. Dinners cost $9 for adults and $5 for children and include a homemade dessert and beverage. Boy Scout Troop 483 schedules open house

Boy Scout Troop 483 of West Seneca will host an open house from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Reserve Fire Hall, 2400 Berg Road. All past and present Webelows are welcome. St. David’s to prepare clam chowder luncheon

St. David’s Episcopal Church, located at 3951 Seneca St., will host its annual Shrove Tuesday Clam Chowder Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. Lunches cost $6 per person and include choice of Manhattan or New England chowder plus one refill, as well as bread, dessert and a beverage. Presale and takeout orders must be made by Feb. 14. St. John’s will serve chicken, fish dinners

A BW’s fish fry and chicken finger dinner will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton St. (near Union Road). Dinners will be takeout only. The fish fry costs $9 and includes fries and coleslaw. The chicken finger dinner costs $7 and includes fries and carrots. Basket donations sought for foundation’s benefit

The third annual Amanda Hansen Foundation wine- and beer-tasting benefit will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center, located at 425 Meyer Road, West Seneca.
