Sullivan earns West’s best finish in distance events at Yale Classic

West Seneca West junior Kalen Sullivan ran a personal-best 4:25.50 to finish third out of 59 runners in the mile at this past weekend’s 30th annual Yale Track Classic — the best-ever effort by a West runner in any distance race at the Classic.

Sophomore Erin McAneney qualified for sectionals with her time of 11:39.20 in the 3,000-meter run, while junior William Adey posted personal-best efforts in the high jump (5-foot-10), the 55 dash (7.84 seconds) and in his leg of the 4x200 relay (26.4). Eighth grader Emma Harris also posted multiple personal bests with her efforts in both the 55 hurdles (11.41) and her 400 leg of the distance medley relay (1:09.2).

Other personal bests were recorded by senior Zachary Boyce (25.1), sophomore Jonathon Rehner (25.4) and junior Gina Mucha (28.4) in their legs of their respective

4x200 relays, as well as seventh grader Emily Marchitte (8.06), eighth grader Erin Schappert (8.37) and freshman Elissa Rojas (8.85) in the 55 dash.

Senior Kaylee Zak (11:59.05), junior Kaitlin Alessi (12:25.33) and junior Jennifer Cheatom (12:47.19) posted personal-best efforts in the 3,000 run, while sophomore Taylor Ksiazek (55 hurdles, 10.44) and junior Brianna Colello (high jump, 5-0) also set new personal standards.

“This competition served as a learning experience for many of our competitors,” coach Emilio Mancino said. “Our hope is that our remaining competitors use those experiences to finish this season as strongly as possible.”

West returns to action Saturday by competing in the season’s first varsity select meet at Lancaster.
