Andy Smigiera rewrote a portion of West Seneca East’s boys track record book Thursday, as his winning time of 10.7 seconds in the 100-meter dash is now the benchmark for future Trojans to aspire to hit.

West Seneca West’s boys track team made the most of its annual “overnight” meet this past weekend by finishing eighth out of the 20 teams participating in the Dr. Jack V. Irion Queensbury Invitational.

Car show to be held in racing legend’s memory

A classic car show in memory of North Tonawanda native and professional race car driver James Ernest Hurtubise — more commonly know as Jim "Herk" Hurtubise — will take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the Manhattan Street parking lot of the North Tonawanda History Museum, 54 Webster St., as part of the New York Heritage Weekend.

It might not be reflected in the the team’s record, but West Seneca East’s baseball squad “is playing much better” and “finally coming together,” according to coach Dave Giancola, after the Trojans strung together four solid performances in their most recent games.

Thanks to Clarence’s recent win over Frontier, West Seneca West’s girls track team entered Tuesday’s league finale against the Lady Falcons with a shot to outright claim the Division I regular season title — though victory wasn’t exactly a given, considering Frontier is the five-time defending division champs.

Bills’ Spencer Johnson to host Pro Sports Festival at Kenney Field

The Second Annual Southwest New York Pro Sports Festival will be held beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Kenney Field in Tonawanda. The event will be hosted by Buffalo Bills defensive end Spencer Johnson.
